Trapezius (Middle Division)
Region: Shoulder Girdle

Origin: Spinous processes of 1st - 5th thoracic vertebrae.  

Insertion: Superior border of spine of scapula.

Isolated function: Assists in concentric acceleration of scapular elevation, scapular retraction and depression.

Integrated function: Eccentrically decelerates scapular protraction and upward rotation, assists in dynamically stabilizing the scapula during functional movements.

Nerve Supply: Spinal accessory and ventral rami of C3, 4.
